At the beginning of February, 1918, 7th Rifle Brigade of 41 Brigade, 14th Division moved into support at Clastres and Essigny, in that part of the line, south of St. Quentin, recently taken over from the French. At 7am on 3rd February, enemy planes dropped bombs on their positions, killing four men and wounding another four. Joseph Sharples was badly wounded and died later that day. |
